Famous Last Words: Week 9

Spring Break is almost over, and I can't believe it.  My spring break was spent down in Naples, Florida.  I went to visit my family and had the most relaxing vacation I have had in a while.  It seemed like every other vacation I have had in the past few years, I have either been planning for something, studying something, researching something or working.  This was the first vacation where I was able to relax and not worry about anything school related.

One of the main reasons I was able to do that, is that I have been officially accepted into graduate school!  It was the biggest relief for me to receive the notification and to say, I officially have a plan for next year.  The school I was accepted to was OSU (I know, I know, our rivals).  However, they have one of the best school psychology programs in the country and I have wanted to go there, and have been working on getting into there, for about two years now.  So the fact that I was accepted was a dream come true.  There is one other school I am waiting on before I make my official decision.  I am currently waitlisted there, so there is a possibility I could be accepted and I want to consider all of my options before making a decision.  However, I will most likely be heading up to Stillwater in the fall and I cannot wait to start my future career.

I know that it will be hard for me to keep the momentum as the school year comes to a close, but considering graduation is less than two months away, I will just have to keep pushing myself so I can reach the end.  For all of those who are still juniors, or graduating in December, watch out.  Because graduation will creep up on you before you know it.

Famous Last Words for Week 7

This past week has been a constant hustle and bustle.  My schedule has turned into me scheduling out just about every free minute I have to prevent myself from becoming overwhelmed from everything I have to do.

I am supposed to find out about graduate school acceptances/rejections this week.  The snow this past week, however, is making that a little hard to do because I have no idea whether or not the schools stayed open on the days that other interviews were supposed to happen.  Right now it is just a lot of anxious waiting and trying to find other things to occupy my mind.

The good thing about the snow this past week is that it gave me some time to catch up on some of the work I needed to get done.  I also had my roommates dog to keep me company, which always makes for a good study buddy.

Since we are in the middle of the semester, it can get harder and harder to stay on top of things.  I know that is certainly the case for me.  I just keep reminding myself to take things one day at a time and to also use the free time I have productively.  It may be a pain to do that now but I know I will thank myself in the long run.

We are almost at spring break which is definitely something I am needing.  That about sums it up for my week last week.  Now, on to this week.

Famous Last Words: Week 1

I am not sure if this topic fits under the category for this particular blog, however it is a realization I have had over the past week and it is something I would like to share.  In college, a lot of the students, myself included are bogged down with all of the work that we need to do.  That requires us to not focus on something that is incredibly important to us.  What is this very important item, you ask?

What We Eat.

As college students we usually don't think about food until right when it is time to eat, and then we end up either eating something that we bought from fast food or we make something that is quick and easy because that is all we are able to do.  What most college students don't do is take a small amount of time to cook a couple of meals for a few days.  It not only takes out the stress of lines and waiting to get your food, but it also means you are able to make anything you want.  Not just what is available.  Some people may scoff at this idea, that I am just learning this now, but with how busy I have been these past few semester it can be hard to even take that into consideration.  I would just go from meeting to class to meeting without even taking two seconds to plan what food I would want, or even see if I could bring food for me to class.

What changed?  The fact I actually took a moment to consider what it would take for me to plan out some meals.  Maybe 30 minutes of planning beforehand, a little consideration when I went to the grocery store, and then a small amount of time to cook whatever I have planned.  Not only has it changed my mindset when I plan my week, but it also has helped me practice more cooking skills.  Skills that I will definitely need when I am in the real world and no longer in the bubble that is college.
